![]() Long story short, i'm dealing with these bastards in my way and i'm happy with it. Also i'm working on an automated spam on spammers' e-mails. I collect their e-mail addresses and contact them with each other via e-mail (i'm looking to you Nigerian prince). (Fucking telemetry does not count) I am doing the same thing with e-mail spammers/scammers. The last virus/infected computer i had was in 2007. So searching any kind of malicious sites became sort of a hobby to me. You were somehow dealing with them, but then DSL, ADSL, Cable, Mobile, Satellite, Fiber. It was fucking dial-up days and there were dialer viruses and pop-ups. My first love in computers began with Atari 800 XL in 1990s, then with the internet era i had Pentium 166 MMX in 1998. Thanks to pi-hole, uBlock Origin and uMatrix, i visit highly suspicious sites (especially Russian and Chinese ones - even i can't understand them) and inspect/block unusual domains. Well, i'm doing similar things when i got bored. It's truly amazing/horrifying how much information (sweet, sweet metadata) constantly flows outwards from a user's computer into the internet. Linux has firewall software packages available but I've never fell in love with any of them.I should revisit that topic. On windows, a software firewall can help (ie outbound connections that do not match a rule are blocked), and I'm a fan of The further you stray from a linux minimal install, the harder it is to get the overall ecosystem to stop fidgeting. They certainly tore a couple dozen pages from Apple's playbook :/ They've sure gone to great lengths to make that otherwise pleasant browser quite fucking impossible to configure, and their help files are a steaming pile of shit too. Might have to drop Epiphany browser because I can't seem to disable prefetching, for example. One of the low hanging fruits is watching pihole for unprompted DNS requests, tracking the source down, and eliminating it. One of my current larks is an openbox desktop within a Devuan (systemd-free Debian fork) minimal install, and trying to get it to do only what I tell it to. Hey software, leave that hardware alone! Quit your fussing, just sit there and relax! I can't decide whether it is amazing or disgusting.Īs an aside, I rather enjoy the rather pointless task of making my computer hardware "quiet". Just reading the list gives an idea about how a "cloud based software" works. Mods said "block everything", so here it is for anyone interested ![]()
